19TH CENTURY GREEN MAN CARVED OAK DESK CIRCA 1880.
GOOD EXAMPLE OF A SMALL 1 PIECE PEDESTAL DESK WITH GREEN MAN CARVINGS. THE GREEN MAN HAS BEEN APPEARING SINCE MEDIEVAL TIMES ON BUILDINGS AND FURNITURE AND SAW A REVIVAL DURING THE VICTORIAN TIMES.
THIS DESK IS PRESENTED IN LIGHT OAK, WITH GOOD QUALITY CARVING AND COLOUR. WRITING SURFACE IS A NEW PIECE OF GREEN LEATHER, EMBOSSED WITH GOLD TOOLING. 1 DRAWER ABOVE THE KNEE, FLANKED EITHER SIDE BY 4 DRAWERS, ALL CARVED WITH THE GREEN MAN FACE WHICH ALSO FORMS THE HANDLE. STANDING ON PLINTH BASE WITH CONCEALED BLOCK FEET.
FINISHED TO THE SIDES AND REVERSE WITH OAK PANELS WHICH MAKES THIS DESK FREE STANDING IF REQUIRED.
EXPECTED MINOR SURFACE MARKS, RESTORATION TO WOODWORK. READY FOR EVERYDAY USE.
